Capiz Times starts training grassroots journalists

Capiz State University, Municipality of Pilar — The Capiz Times through its 3 staff begun its series of grassroots journalism seminar on March 11 at the Capiz State University-Pilar Satellite Campus.

A total of 50 students coming from the various colleges of the University underwent crash course training on news writing, editorial writing and layouting.

Ms. Editha Colmo, one of its ace columnists, handled the topics on news writing and layouting while Virgilio Clavel, associate editor, discussed the editorials.

The grassroots journalism seminar project is an innovative project conceived by Ms. Edalyn Acta, Operations Manager of the The Capiz Times. As Acta said during the seminar’s opening remarks,
“the grassroots journalism seminar is The Capiz Times capability building initiatives designed to teach high school and college student writers…” and “… hopes to inspire more students to pursue writing and eventually become committed media petitioners. This seminar envisions to help these students to become more articulate to truly represent the “Voice of the Capiz.
