The Capiztahan 2025 was a successful celebration of the 124th founding anniversary of the Province of Capiz.
The festival had its highlight over the weekend by telling the story of the Capisnon from the 14 municipalities and the City of Roxas.
The Municipality of Dumarao emerged as the big winner of Maragtas sang Capisnon: Historical Parade and Cultural Performances. Dumarao was champion both in the cultural performance and street dancing categories with its theme of “Pagpakigsumpong”, which depicted the guerilla resistance of Capiz against the Japanese during World War II.
As for the float category, the Municipality of President Roxas emerged as champion. Its “Pagpanikasog” theme depicted the rising tide of empowered Capisnon women against the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II.
As for the pageant, Niña Mykaella Amante of the Municipality of Tapaz was crowned Lin-ay sang Capiz while Grant Boone of Roxas City was crowned Hangaway sang Capiz.
Roxas City emerged as the grand winner of Saot Capiz: Capisnon Folk Dance Competition. The Sarayawan Dance Company of Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion defended the crown for Roxas City with its winning performance of the Tinolabong dance.
As for Lutong Capisnon: School Cooking Competition, the team from Capiz State University (CapSU)-Dayao Satellite Campus emerged as champion with its inubaran nga bayuyan dish.
Visitors and locals alike also enjoyed the mouthwatering seafood at the Surambaw, which showcased Capiz as the “Seafood Capital” of the country.
One of the non-cultural activities of Capiztahan was the Mountain Bike Enduro Race held in the Municipality of Ivisan.
This year’s Capiztahan was also special when Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco and other officials of the Department of Tourism (DOT) came.
The Capiznons also enjoyed performances by celebrities Yeng Constantino, Crayons band, SexBomb GenX, Nik Makino, Orange and Lemons, Peanut-Edward Vallespin, Kristine KZ Tandingan, TJ Monterde, and Ivana Alawi.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Capiz through its Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) is preparing for the 125th provincial anniversary next year.
