PAPI elects new officers for 2025-2028

The Publishers Association of the Philippines Inc. (PAPI)—one of the country’s largest and oldest media organizations representing the publishing sector—elected its new set of officers for 2025-2028.

Elected as PAPI President is Rebecca M. Velasquez of Pulso ng Makabagong Caviteño.  Velasquez replaced Nelson Santos. 

The June 24, 2025 election at the National Press Club (NPC) in Intramuros, Manila also elected Ian Junio of Hyperland News Publishing as national vice president. 

The three vice presidents are: Alma Omilig Ochotorena of News Syndicate Digest for Luzon; Danilo N. Silvestrece of Balita Tirador Publication for Visayas; and Anila Anne B. Acosta of Mindanao Expose for Mindanao. 

Reyland Lopez of Unang Milenyo News Publishing Center is elected secretary.

Leonida Pascua Cardona of People’s Monitor Publication is elected as treasurer. 

May Ann Reyla of City View Publishing is elected auditor.

The board of directors for Luzon are Eduardo Cardona of Rizal Voice Publication and Dina Diaz of Tarlac Insider Weekly Newspaper.

Giecel Albar of Akeanon News Publishing Services is the lone board of director for Visayas.

Board of directors for Mindanao are Elpedio Bermas Soriano Jr. of Eagles Journal and Joseph Denmarc Miranda Avila of Peryodista Publications.

Among the guests were Secretary Jay Ruiz of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Undersecretary Joe Torres Jr. of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), and 

NPC President Leoniel Abasola.

PAPI also paid tribute to Juan “Johnny” Dayang, who was shot dead in Kalibo, Aklan last April 29. 

June 24 would have been the 90th birthday of Dayang, who served as PAPI president for over 20 years.

In a video message, Consul General to Turkey Jed Dayang urged PAPI members to continue his father’s legacy by fighting for press freedom.
