The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched the innovation hub (iHub) in Roxas City as the agency encourages innovators in Capiz.
DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. led the September 10, 2025 formal opening of iHub Capiz as it was one of the highlights of 2025 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW).
As the 59th iHub in the country, the iHub of Capiz reflects the province’s growing role in the innovation ecosystem of Western Visayas.
With its strong agricultural and fisheries base, the hub opens new possibilities for advancing food security, developing sustainable marine projects, and introducing Industry 4.0 practices in local enterprises.
More than a physical facility, iHub Capiz is envisioned as a platform for collaboration and co-creation. It will serve students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, offering them access to mentorship, advanced tools, and linkages with industries.
The hub aims to strengthen local enterprises, nurture startups, and support sustainable solutions that address the needs of Capizeños.
Solidum was joined by DOST-6 Regional Director Rowen Gelonga, DOST Provincial Director Juafe Abareles, and DOST Assistant Provincial Director Ryan Vilmor Dumpit.
The RSTW last September 10-12 was the second time hosted by Capiz. The first was in 2018.
This year’s theme was “Siyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan.”
