Capiz Lights Up the Holidays with Dazzling Paskwa sang Maragtas Festival

Capiz swung open the gates to the Christmas season with a double celebration that lit up the province—first with the grand opening of Paskwa sang Maragtas: Capiz Christmas Festival at the New Capiz Provincial Capitol on December 1, followed by the unveiling of the Maragtas Christmas Village at the Capiz Provincial Park the next evening.

The December 1 kickoff was nothing short of historic. For the first time ever, the 140-meter façade of the new Capitol burst into life with a breathtaking projection-mapping show—the first of its kind on a Capitol building in the region. Thousands watched as the structure transformed into a massive storytelling canvas, narrating the Capisnon Christmas journey of gratitude, service, resilience, and unwavering faith, hope, and love. The night climaxed with a spectacular fireworks display above Pueblo de Panay, painting the sky in festive hues.

Performances from school and community groups—including Colegio Dela Purisima Concepcion (CPC), CAPIZ State University (CapSU), Filamer Christian University (FCU), Capiz National High School (CNHS), and local artists—added to the spectacle. Families flocked to traditional Capisnon games like kadang, taking, jackstone, tumbang preso, Chinese garter, and jump rope, while vendors filled the grounds with well-loved street food and native delicacies. The night pulsed on with Cali Band, Playbac Band, and an after-party headlined by DJ Dann So Chan and MC Ray Domingo. A special appearance by Lindsay Custodio drew cheers from the crowd.

The celebration continued on December 2 as Governor Fredenil H. Castro led the opening of the Maragtas Christmas Village at the Capiz Provincial Park. The park, transformed into a glowing holiday haven, welcomed visitors with illuminated flora, whimsical blossom-dwelling creatures, and sea-inspired installations shimmering under blue-light tunnels reminiscent of Capiz’s majestic waters. Christmas trees and traditional huts added warmth to the magical scene.

Guests were treated to performances by Variation 7, a Videoke King and Queen showdown, and a lively street food fair. The Christmas Village will remain open daily until 11 p.m. for the entire holiday season.

With the back-to-back openings of the Capitol Christmas Show and the Maragtas Christmas Village, Capiz has officially set the stage for a joyful, vivid, and unforgettable month-long celebration—inviting families, friends, and visitors to bask in the lights, music, and spirit of Paskwa sang Maragtas.
