Last March 20, the dance video for the Capiztahan 2026 was launched as part of the preparatory activities leading to the 125th founding anniversary of the civil government of Capiz next month.
“We share this dance video featuring performers from across all towns of Capiz, moving as one to the rhythm of Capiztahan,” announced the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO).
Key places in the Municipalities of Cuartero, Dao, Dumalaga, Dumarao, Ivisan, Jamindan, Maayon, Mambusao, Panay, Panitan, Pila, Pontevedra, President, Roxas, Sapian, Sigma, and Tapaz, as well as the capital of Roxas City, served as backdrop to the music video.
“We also offer this as a tribute to the province, which is home to over 30 published Capisnon folk dances. In this piece, the Capiztahan dance draws from the very movements of these folk dances–carrying forward the stories and spirit of our people,” PTCAO explained.
“This is a powerful reminder that beyond our diversity, we are bound by one shared culture, one shared identity, one shared history… and now, one shared dance,” added PTCAO.
This year’s Capiztahan is slated on April 13-19, 2026 with major activities such as the Saot Capiz dance competition, cultural parade, street parties, sports events, singing contests, celebrity performances, and food festival.
PTCAO Head Alphonsus “Al” Tesoro said this year’s Capiztahan will once again have the much awaited “Surambaw”, the eat-all-you-can buffet that highlights Capiz as the country’s Seafood Capital.
Atty. Luvim Amores of the Public Information Office (PIO) said another major event is the Hangaway kag Lin-ay sang Capiz, a culture-based competition that celebrates the strength, intelligence and grace of Capiznons.
Rio Garcia of the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (PEDIPO) added that Capiztahan provides opportunities for small and medium enterprises to showcase products made in the province.
