The recent voter’s registration of Ivan Harold Guintu, the twin brother of incumbent 1st District Capiz Cong. Ivan Howard Guintu, is fueling speculations.
Political observers have raised the question: “Is this part of the Guintu family’s political strategy for the upcoming barangay and local elections?”
A photo even showed Cong. Howard accompanying his twin brother Ivan at one of the satellite registrations by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Roxas City.
Harold became a registered voter of Brgy. Dayao, where the family reportedly purchased a residential house.
While the brothers have paternal roots in Pampanga, their mother Ida Andrada Abendaño Guintu is a native of Roxas City.
Tracing her roots in Brgy. Loctugan, their mother Ida was the first nominee of the Pinuno Party-list during the May 2025 elections. Ida was supposed to replace her son Howard as party-list representative when the latter was running for congressman against Paolo Roxas.
Cong. Howard is currently in his first term as congressman and is still eligible to seek reelection twice for the same post.
While it’s too early to tell what exactly will happen, a close ally of Cong. Guintu stated the family only “aims to assist the community and improve the lives of its residents.”
