The Provincial Government of Capiz started distributing rice assistance that will benefit around 40,000 households across the province.
Capiz Provincial Information and Human Resource Management Office Head Atty. Luvim Amores said the program under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) of the Marcos administration targets the poorest 25 percent of households in every municipality and Roxas City.
Beneficiaries include indigent families, farmers, fisherfolk, and members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It aims to help vulnerable families cope with rising commodity prices
Each qualified household is set to receive a total of 60 kilograms of rice through six distribution waves, with 10 kilograms allocated per wave. The first wave has already been implemented in all municipalities, while the second wave is scheduled next month.
Amores explained that municipalities and cities also received separate LGSF allocations from the national government, allowing them to assist another 25 percent of poor households. To ensure wider coverage, the provincial and municipal beneficiary lists are cross-matched to prevent duplication.
“Those included in the provincial list should no longer appear on the municipal list,” Amores said, noting that the system allows more families to benefit from the assistance program.
Last June 15, Governor Fredenil Castro and Congresswoman Jane “Baby Jane” Castro joined the distribution of 10 kilograms of rice to beneficiaries in Tapaz.
The initiative forms part of the provincial government’s continuing efforts to support struggling sectors and ensure that no Capiznon is left behind amid economic challenges. The distribution is being carried out through the coordinated efforts of the Provincial Government of Capiz, Task Force Pagdumdum, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), and the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO).
The target completion of the rice distribution program, including its sixth and final wave, is set for December.
