1 dead, 293 injured from firecrackers in Region 6

January 6, 2024. The lone fatality was a 28-year-old man from Dao town, Capiz province. Dr. Fritzi Ann Suzette Jeroso-Dequito of DOH-6’s Health Promotion Unit said that the man died from injuries sustained from a homemade firecracker. With one fatality and 293 injuries, DOH-6 Regional Director Adriano Suba-an said Western Visayas ranked fifth in firecracker related-injuries. In terms of area, the province of Negros Occiental recorded the most number of cases with 103. Iloilo province had the second highest number of
firecracker-related injuries with 97. There were also 19 cases in Aklan, 18 cases in Capiz, 11 cases in Iloilo City, three cases in Guimaras province, and one case in Bacolod City. The most number of injuries were from the kwitis firecracker. There were also injuries recorded from boga, triangulo, camara, and watusi.
