ROXAS CITY — Thirteen open dumpsites in Capiz have been closed for rehabilitation.
The nine dumpsites in Brgy. Tapulang, Maayon; Brgy. Natividad, Pilar; Brgy. Intampilan, Panitan; Brgy. Binantucan, Pontevedra; Brgy. Tanza Sur, Panay; Brgy. Bula, Mambusao; Brgy. Maninang, Sitio Bangkal, Sapian; Brgy. Aglalana, Dumarao; and Brgy. San Miguel, Dumalag were served with notice of closures.
Those in the municipalities of Ivisan, Cuartero, Tapaz, and President Roxas, meanwhile, have already closed their open dumpsites.
Chief Forester Victor Losbañes of Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau Region 6 (DENR-EMB 6) and Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer Emilyn Arboleda-Depon talked to the municipal mayors and the environment officers about the needed measures to comply and properly dispose of their wastes.
Municipalities will not be allowed to dump any waste materials on the sites and were encouraged to do proper waste segregation, and strictly implement the solid waste management.
The closures are in response to the directive of Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu against open dumpsites.*
