ROXAS CITY—While all has been set for Capiztahan 2020 on April 14–18, due to the preventive measures for the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19), Gov. Esteban Nonoy Contreras announced that the festivities will officially be cancelled.
Contreras said, however, that the Province will still lead the Flag Raising, the wreath-laying at the President Manuel Roxas monument and the celebration of the Holy Mass.
According to Alphonsus Tesoro of the Capiz Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, Capiztahan 2020 is chaired by Governor Nonoy Contreras. Dale Bernas serves as vice chair.
Members include the indigenous peoples of Capiz; the representatives from the national agencies, provincial government and private sectors; hotel operators and travel agencies, tour operators and the Archdiocese of Capiz.
Some 34 events, namely: 12 for cultural and arts; 11 sports events and 11 special events including Mutya sang Capiz— will be cancelled.
Tesoro said that this year’s proposed back-to-back Capiz and Aklan Tourism Exchange who are supposed to perform on the Panay Bridge will not push through.
Meanwhile, Mambusao Mayor Leodegario Labao Jr. has also cancelled the town’s 430th founding anniversary of the town slated March 29.
