Four members of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the government forces at Libacao, Aklan on February 18.
The surrenderers, whose names were withheld, were cousins and residents of Libacao who joined the NPA last December 2020 in return for cash.
In a press release, Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda, director of Police Regional Office-6, said the surrenderers became active members of Kilusang Rehiyong Panay (KR-PANAY) operating in the areas of Barangay Manika and Barangay Dalagsa-an in Libacao, Aklan.
However, they decided to leave the group because of the deceptions of their recruiters, the press release said, adding that the money that was promised to them never materialized.*
