9-day novena held for new Manila archbishop

ROXAS CITY — The Archdiocese of Manila has launched a nine-day spiritual preparation ahead of the installation of Cardinal Jose Advincula Jr. as its 33rd archbishop on June 24.

Bishop Broderick Pabillo, the archdiocese’s administrator, instructed that the novena would involve prayer, catechesis, and charity from June 15 to 23.

On the evening of June 23, parishes and communities were encouraged to pray before the Blessed Sacrament and for Advincula.

The days should also be spent on listening to the Church’s teachings, Pabillo told CBCP news.

Pabillo encouraged the parishes to do charitable activities like feeding programs and distribution of food bags or gift checks in relation to the forthcoming activity.

Caritas Manila will also do charity events by distributing P50-million worth of gift certificates to 50,000 families in different parishes.*
