A call for parental guidance

The news is full of heartbreaking stories: young teens getting pregnant, suffering abuse from friends, or being assaulted.  These aren’t just isolated cases; they’re a serious problem showing that kids need more help from their parents.  While society plays a part, it’s clear many young people aren’t getting the guidance they need.

Social media is a huge part of the problem.  Kids see perfect lives online, but that’s not real life.  This can lead to disappointment and make them easy targets for bad things.  Without parents helping them understand what’s real and what’s not, they’re vulnerable. It’s also too easy for kids to find inappropriate stuff online.  Violent videos, sexual images, and harmful ideas are just a few clicks away.  This can reduce their concern about serious issues, and without parents to help them understand, they’re left to figure it out alone.

The results are devastating.  Teenage pregnancy often means dropping out of school, money problems, and emotional pain for everyone involved.  Abuse and assault leave lasting scars, affecting their lives for years.  These aren’t just numbers; these are real kids with ruined lives.

Parents have a more important role than ever.  It’s not about controlling their kids; it’s about teaching them how to handle the world.  Talking openly, teaching them about sex, and knowing what they’re doing online are all really important.

Parents need to be more than just providers—they need to be guides and protectors. This isn’t about blaming parents; it’s about working together.  Schools and communities also have a part to play.  But parents are the first and most important line of defense.

The answer isn’t to ban everything—it’s about talking and teaching.  Parents need to have honest conversations with their kids about online dangers, and help them think critically.  They need to teach respect, boundaries, and consent. Protecting our kids is everyone’s responsibility.

We need to act now.  We can’t just watch as kids face danger online without the help they need.  Let’s work together to create a safer world for young people, giving them the tools to succeed.
