Capiznon lawyer Nathaniel “Nat” Oducado vowed that the advocacy of 1Tahanan party-list will continue even after his resignation.

“I leave with full confidence that the advocacies of the party-list will not end with my departure. I trust that whoever takes my place will carry forward the same commitment that brought 1Tahanan to Congress in the first place,” said Oducado following the formalization of his resignation.

The native of Sapian town took everyone by surprise after his abrupt resignation from the Lower House, which was announced last May 19.

Oducado has been a congressman representing 1Tahanan for only 10 months when he tendered his resignation due to health reasons.

“My health and my family are the most important things and deserve my full attention,” Oducado said.

It is unclear what health challenges Oducado is facing as he did not specifically mention it in his public statement.

During his short tenure in the House of Representatives, Oducado pushed for social protection of the marginalized and affordable public housing.

Oducado was principal author of 115 bills to address various concerns including unfair debt collection; stopping the practice of converting of irrigated lands into non-agricultural use; strengthening credit access credit to micro and small business; among others.

Oducado was also co-author of 31 bills.

Oducado was also a member of 13 House committees including the Committee on Appropriations; Committee on Basic Education and Culture; Committee on Health; Committee on Information and Technology; Committee on Housing and Urban Development; Committee on National Defense; Committee on Poverty Alleviation; Committee on Trade and Industry; among others.
