Capiznon pride or not?
A friend saw a person’s comment online about a Capiznon pretending to be an Ilonggo out of fear of being tagged as someone who lives in the “place of aswang”.
Maybe this person is tired of the aswang jokes or wants to be taken more seriously when it comes to employment opportunities by leveraging Iloilo’s status as a more progressive province.
The aswang jokes and the anti-promdi mentality are examples of outdated mindsets. Those who have such outdated forms of thinking are not worth pandering to.
Being rejected by an employer because the applicant is Capiznon is God’s protection from a sh***y workplace.
If someone like Pupa Dadivas, who takes pride in being a Capiznon, can get signed by a record label owned by ABS-CBN and make it to The Clash on GMA, you, as a Capiznon, can make it anywhere.
If Jovita Fuentes, who was born in Capiz (now Roxas City), made it big in theatrical plays in Europe and America and became the first National Artist for Music, you can make it anywhere.
If Joel Longares of Mambusao has his rags to riches story in America, you can make it anywhere.
You lack the capabilities to make yourself marketable as an employee if you are willing to take shortcuts like pretending to be a citizen of a different city or province.
If you are ashamed of your province because of a mythical creature, you’re too much of an elitist.
I really do not know about the logic behind that netizen’s stance on being a Capiznon, but what I do know is: I am a proud Capiznon.
