On October 25, Jose Fuerte Advincula Jr., archbishop of Capiz, has been named cardinal by His Holiness Pope Francis.
Born on March 30, 1952 in Dumalag, Capiz to Jose Sr. and Carmen Fuerte, Advincula was ordained priest on April 4, 1976 by the Most Rev. Antonio F. Frondosa and was appointed Papal Chaplain of Pope John Paul II on March 19, 1997.
On July 25, 2001, he was appointed Bishop of San Carlos by Pope John Paul II and was ordained on Sept. 8, 2001.
On Nov. 9, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Archbishop of Capiz. He now joins the list of Filipino cardinals: Luis Tagle (Prefect of Propaganda Fide and Archbishop Emeritus of Manila), Gaudencio Rosales (Archbishop Emeritus of Manila) and Orlando Quevedo (Archbishop of Cotabato).
Jaime Cardinal Sin was the first rector of St. Pius X Seminary while Jose Cardinal Advincula was the first rector of Sancta Maria Mater et Regina Seminarium. Both seminaries are in the Archdiocese of Capiz.
