ASF-affected hog raisers get PCIC financial aid


A total of 42 African Swine Fever (ASF) – affected hog raisers in the province received a P1,156,320.00
worth of financial assistance from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) at the Provincial
Capitol in Roxas City on June 15.
These qualified beneficiaries who have availed the insurance program were from Roxas City and
municipalities of Cuartero, Dao, Dumarao, Ivisan, Jamindan, Mambusao, Panay, Panitan, Pilar,
Pontevedra, President Roxas, and Tapaz.
PCIC Capiz Provincial Extension head Melvin Vego revealed that there will be a second batch of
payment for 30 PCIC’s insured hog raisers in the province amounting to P1-million.
Based on the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian data as of June 7, at least 551 hog raisers in 242 of
the 473 barangays in Capiz are affected by the highly-contagious and deadly viral disease, affecting
both domestic and wild swine of all ages.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan members declared the province under the state of calamity during
their regular session held on June 13, heeding the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC).
To note, ASF has affected a total of 3,983 farmers as of June 6 since Capiz had its first confirmed ASF
case recorded on Feb. 22, 2023 in Maayon town. (PIA Capiz)
