ROXAS CITY — Local businessmen have reported extortion activities by individuals who allegedly belong to the rebel group New People’s Army.

Col. Ricardo Jomuad, chief of Roxas City Police Station, said the extortionists get the contact details of their victims online, adding that businessmen have reported extortion activities in the past few months.

“Pahugon nila dayon nga patyon ukon pagasunogon ang ila gamit,” Jomuad added.

Jomuad stressed that the NPA only has a mass base in the city.

He claimed that the extortionists could be outside the region but may have connections in the city.

He urged the public to report to the police any extortion activities by NPA.*
