Capelco opens generator plant to mitigate brownouts

ROXAS CITY — The Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) is working on ways to mitigate power interruptions that were caused by recent damage on the 138-kilovolt (kV) high voltage underwater submarine cable at Amlan, Negros Occidental.

Due to this, Capelco has opened two generators in Timpas, Panitan with a combined capacity of 7 megawatts (MW).

This was to lessen the effects of the load shedding done by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) due to the underwater cable damage.

The cable was damaged due to the Department of Public Works and Highways project at Bio-os River in Amlan, Negros Oriental, a press release from NGCP said.

Even with no effect in Panay Island, the NGCP conducted load shedding to prevent overload on their lines.*
