As part of its 125th founding anniversary, the Province of Capiz rekindled its ties with the Provinces of Aklan and Romblon.
Dubbed as “Kapusod Imaw: Cultural Exchange”, the Capiz Provincial Government under Governor Fredenil “Oto” Castro hosted officials of Aklan and Romblon.
The April 15, 2026 gathering outside the new Capiz Provincial Capitol in Pueblo de Panay, Roxas City was a night that highlighted the shared history and cultural roots of the three provinces.
Once part of a larger Capiz territory, the three provinces showcased unity through music, dance, and poetry performances that reflected their intertwined heritage.
Governor Castro also led the exchanging of tokens of friendship and goodwill with representatives from the two provinces.
Aklan was represented by Vice Governor Dexter M. Calizo on behalf of Governor Jose Enrique “Joen” M. Miraflores.
Romblon was represented by Board Member Maria Rhosarean Solis on behalf of Governor Trina Firmalo-Fabic.
The gesture underscored the enduring ties and mutual respect among the three provinces.
The cultural exchange featured collaborative performances by local artists, culminating in a grand rendition of the “Kapusod Imaw” theme song.
Historically, Capiz once encompassed a vast area in northern and central Panay, including territories that are now Aklan and Romblon.
Aklan became a separate province in 1956 through Republic Act No. 1414 while Romblon transitioned from a sub-province of Capiz in 1907 to an independent province in 1917.
A highlight of the evening was the Sine Maragtas, a projection mapping show produced by the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office.
The Sine Maragtas depicted Capiz’s rich past through the themes of place, history, and identity. The production was written by history professor Dr. Vicente “Vic” C. Villan, who hails from Sigma.
