Capiz economy rebounds to 6.2 percent in 2021

THE 2021 Gross Provincial Domestic Product (GPDP) of Capiz was valued at P68.4- billion, which is 6.2 percent higher than the 2020 GPDP of P64.4 -billion.
“Agriculture, forestry and fishing led the industries in 2021 with 1.9 percentage points contribution of the 6.2 GPDP growth of the province,” said a Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) news release.
This was followed by wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with 1.4 percentage points contribution.

In terms of growth, construction posted the fastest growth in 2021 with 23.9 percent and is followed by human health and social work activities with 17.1 percent growth and accommodation and food services activities with 15.1`percent growth.
All other industries also improved in 2021 except for transportation and storage and mining and quarrying which posted a decline of -4.3 and -1.8 percent, respectively.
The indicators were a result of the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) that was piloted in various areas, including Capiz province, for PPA compilation in 2022 mechanism to ensure the economic performance of the province or highly urbanized cities at a given time.
Since 2021, the PSA annually releases the provincial and HUC level economic performances of the identified pilot areas.
The PSA, established thru Republic Act No. 10625 or The Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, is tasked, among others, to compile and maintain macroeconomic accounts and indicators at the national
