THE first mobile food facility of Western Visayas region is in Roxas City, Capiz province. This was after Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched the Food On-the-road Innovation and Processing Facility (FoodtrIP) during the recent National Science and Technology Week hosted by Iloilo City. The 32-foot customized truck is now Capiz State University-Dayao Satellite College as a demonstration facility for the production of agriculture and fi shery by- products.
The DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute developed the FoodtrIP as a Mobile Modular
Food Processing Facility (MMFPF) that seeks value- added agri-fisheries production and extended product shelf life. FoodtrIP specifically offers conventional frying and vacuum frying technology. The facility is able to produce vacuum-fried mussels and fried camote chips and also has a packaging area for products.
It also aims to reduce losses by farmers and fi sherfolk from products that easily spoil through frying. This gives value-added products to farmers and fisherfolk while reducing food wastage. FoodtrIP is available for use by other partner institutions in Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
