According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the monthly inflation rate in the province
of Capiz continues to positively decline as the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages
dropped.
PSA-Capiz Senior Statistical Specialist Rosiebelle Beluso said during the PIA Kapihan that
inflation rate dropped to 3.2 percent in September from the of 4.3 percent in August 2024.
“As we can see our inflation rate as of September of last year was very high at 6.2 percent while
in August 2024 it became 4.3, and it again decreased to 3.2 in September 2024,” said Beluso.
Based on the data given by the PSA, the only major commodity group with a higher inflation
was alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 3.3 percent compared to the 2.4 in the previous month.
“The major commodity, food, and non-alcoholic beverages has the highest percentage of 47.6
percent in the total index,” Beluso added as it declined from 6.9 percent to 5.5 in September.
The prices in other major commodity groups such as housing, water, electricity, gas, and other
fuels; furnishing, household equipment, and routine household maintenance; health;
transportation; recreation, sport and culture; and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and
services also decreased.
Moreover, there are some commodities whose prices stay the same like clothing and footwear;
financial services; information and communication; education services; and restaurants and
accommodation services.
Further, Beluso also stated that these prices will not be the same as the prices in December,
which are expected to rise due to the holidays. (Pia Lorraine Francisco/PIA Capiz)
