The Province of Capiz and Roxas City clinched major awards at the Pagdáyaw 2025: Western Visayas Tourism Awards by the Department of Tourism (DOT-6).
Foremost, the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) won eight major awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award for its head Alphonsus “Al” Tesoro.
The Provincial Government of Capiz under the administration of Governor Fredenil “Oto” Castro bested other local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas with four championships:
* Best Tourism-Oriented LGU – Excellence Award in Tourism Governance and Development (Provincial Category)
* Tourism Champion in Product Development Award
* Tourism Champion in Promotion of Multi-Dimensional Tourism Products Award
* Tourism Champion in Gender Mainstreaming Award
Capiz likewise was awarded as:
* Tourism Mover Award
* Model Provincial LGU in Local Statistics, Database Management and Reporting
* Partner LGU in Tourism Industry Skills Program
The Slow Food Community-Capiz was also awarded as Tourism Partner in Championing Slow Food in Western Visayas.
The Roxas City LGU under the administration of Mayor Ronnie Dadivas likewise took home two awards. These are:
* Top-Contributing Local Government Unit in Same-Day Visitor Arrival
* Top-Contributing Local Government Unit in Overnight Visitor Arrival
Tesoro was bestowed by DOT-6 with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his 24 years in the tourism, arts, and cultural sectors.
“I also look back with heartfelt joy at those people and communities who have been part of my journey as civil servant, cultural worker, community organizer, lay leader, youth formator, festival /events organizer, theater person, civic leader and tourism officer,” said Tesoro in a statement.
Joining Tesoro during the March 5, 2026 awarding ceremony in Iloilo City were PTCAO Tourism Operations Officer Anthony Colmo and Dr. Harold O. Buenvenida, who represented the Slow Food Community-Capiz.Tourism Officer Dr. Bryan Mari Argos represented the Roxas City LGU during the awarding ceremony.
