Capiz unveils Wall of Heroes

The Capiz Wall of Heroes was recently unveiled at the Capiz Provincial Park in Roxas City to honor those who fought gallantly during World War II.

The December 20, 2025 unveiling was part of the 81st Liberation of Capiz.

“This is a gesture of gratitude from a grateful generation, a testament of courage, and a lasting reminder of the sacrifices made by those who stood in defense of our nation,” said Assistant Secretary Domingo C. Carboniel Jr. of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO).

According to Carboniel, many World War II heroes were natives of Capiz.

“They were ordinary Filipinos who left loved ones, faced dangerous missions, but were steadfast in reclaiming our dignity as a free country,” emphasized Carboniel.

Eduardo A. Betito Sr., president of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP) in Capiz, credited the role of Governor Fredenil “Oto” Castro for making the Heroes Wall a reality.

“The governor had an aspiration to improve the situation of the veterans and their dependents. The governor initiated the donation of this 325-square-meter lot of the Province of Capiz to the VFP,” said Betito.

On behalf of the VFP, Betito also extended appreciation to 1st District Congressman Howard Guintu and 2nd District Congresswoman Jane Castro.

Meanwhile, VFP Regional President and Supreme Council Representative Veteran Colonel Hannibal S. Lipardo urged the public to visit the park and look for the names of their ancestors.  (With reports from Capiz Tourism and Cultural Affairs)
