Capiznon joins multi-racial MTV for COVID-19 fundraiser

ROXAS CITY—A Capiznon singer was featured in a multi-racial music video to raise funds for charities and activities linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Michael Avelino is the only Capiznon on the video for the project called “Harmonies of Hope.”

“It is a project inviting artists all over the world to spread the spirit of harmony, to provide comfort, and to promote fund-raising activities during the Enhanced Community Quarantine,” Avelino said.

“Few artists from World Championship of Performing Arts, artists from different countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Jamaica, Thailand, UAE, Ukraine, Germany and Philippines were invited to sing for the production,” he said.

The song “One Day” by Matisyahu was recorded. The performance was uploaded to the Harmonies of Hope Facebook page on April 30.

Per Harmonies of Hope Facebook page, the benefactors are the YesPinoy Foundation in the Philippines and MNC Peduli in Indonesia.

The donations for Indonesia are for providing medical protective equipment to the medical team in Indonesia who are handling COVID-19 cases, per the Harmonies of Hope page.

Avelino serves as the co-project head and co-talent scout, Loki Gevela.

In 2018 Avelino was featured in the Capiz Times for winning medals in six categories at the World Championship of Performing Arts.

This is the same competition dominated by Ilonggo artist and reality  show judge Jed Madela in 2005.
