ROXAS CITY — Construction of the Capiz Convention Center is starting this year, Governor Esteban Evan Contreras said.
The convention center, located near the Performax building at Pueblo de Panay, will be a two-storey multi-purpose structure with a 5,000 seating capacity, that can also serve as an evacuation center, the governor said.
“We plan to have our convention center to be bigger than the Iloilo Convention Center,” Contreras said.
With the convention center, they plan to host large events, he said.
“Gagutok na sa Iloilo. Wala na expansion. Ang nurses halos tig-15,000 ang civil engineers tig-10,000 (magtipon),” Contreras said.
He added, “it is ambitious but it would create jobs.”
By building the convention center, it would also help the hotel, restaurant, and transportation sectors, he said.
Contreras said that the budget may reach P500 million to 750 million in three years.
P250 million will be allocated this year for the first phase of the project, he said.
He added the proposed project is still up for bidding.
“We are planning on the design and functionality,” Contreras said.*
