Cuartero launches library, museum

The Municipality of Cuartero inaugurated Balay Mapanag, the municipal museum, library, and archives, on February 25.

The establishment of this cultural institution was made possible with the help of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through its Competitive Grants Program.

In the olden times, the town of Cuartero was once called Mapanag, the name of a creek, which is one of the natural boundaries between Dumalag and Cuartero.

As a tribute to the town’s heritage, the community museum, library, and archives is named Balay Mapanag.

The ongoing exhibit features the town’s weaving industry, where different handwoven products are exhibited.

These are crafted by the locals in the town’s different communities. The library, meanwhile, consists of fiction and non-fiction books, as well as, reading materials, brochures, and pamphlets about the history and culture of Cuartero.

On February 28, Balay Mapanag held its virtually launching on its Facebook page, Balay Mapanag.

Balay Mapanag, the Cuartero Municipal Museum, Library and Archives is located on the second floor of the Cuartero Municipal Hall and is open from 8 am until 5 pm.*Christian George Acevedo
