Cuartero wants probe on damaged flood control project

A P94-million flood control project in the Municipality of Cuartero must be investigated after portions of it collapsed.

Sangguniang Bayan Member Eve De Tomas Cedullo said she will bring to the attention of the Office of the President the condition of the Angub River Control project in Barangay Angub.

Cedullo said the structure lacked steel reinforcement to support the concrete, which caused it to crack from the volume of heavy flooding.

The 500-meter Angub River Control Project was constructed in 2019 and a project under the Department of Public Works and Highways-2nd District Engineering Office (DPWH-2nd DEO).

More than five years after its completion, at least 150 meters of the 500-meter infrastructure was damaged.

District Engineer Gerardo Parra said the Angub River Control Project is covered by a five-year warranty that obliges the contractor to repair defects.

Parra also denied having any ghost projects in the second district of Capiz.

Meanwhile, Cedullo expressed hope her complaint would prompt the national government to take action.

Cedullo also asked the national government to review other flood control projects in Cuartero including the ones in Barangays Poblacion Ilaya and Poblacion Ilawod.
