Cultural Mapping Project turns over Capiz inventories

The local government units (LGUs) in the Province of Capiz received the books containing inventories of the cultural mapping project.

The 18 volumes were formally turned over during a May 26, 2026 ceremony dubbed as “

“Pagbuklad: The Technology Transfer of the Cultural Mapping Project” at the main campus of Capiz State University (CAPSU) in Roxas City.

The turnover of books is part of the Cultural Mapping of Panay and Guimaras Project (CMPG), which is funded by the Office of Senator Loren Legarda and part of the revised National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009.

The CMPG’s implementation is spearheaded by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UP Visayas) team lead by project manager Prof. Martin Genodepa and project leader Anna Razel L. Ramirez.

For Capiz, it was CAPSU that was tapped to conduct the cultural mapping project.

“This cultural mapping project is far more than an academic exercise—it is a profound act of preservation that safeguards the identity, memory, and future of our province,” said Dr. Leo Andrew B. Biclar, vice president for Research Development and Extension.

Under the supervision of Biclar, CAPSU research assistants and mappers from the LGUs gathered information on “natural resources, built heritage, movable heritage, intangible cultural heritage, significant personages, and cultural institutions”.

CAPSU vowed to remain steadfast in preservation of the varied cultural identities of the province.

“These publications remind us that culture is not merely a memory of the past; it is a guide for the future,” Dr. Linan said. “Every page becomes an act of preservation, and every documented tradition becomes proof that the identity of a Capizeño remains alive and meaningful,” said CAPSU President Dr. Efren L. Linan.

Aside from the cultural inventories, two other books were launched.  These were “Sugilanon: Capiz Folklore” and “Mga Duog sa Capiz”.

Copies were distributed to all LGUs, the Capiz Provincial Government, the Capiz Provincial Library, the Department of Education (DepEd-Capiz), DepEd-Roxas City, the Office of the 1st Congressional District of Capiz, and the Office of the 2nd Congressional District of Capiz.

Also present were Capiz Human Resource Management Officer and Information Officer Atty. Luvim Amores; Capiz Tourism Officer Alphonsus “Al” Tesoro; Dr. Roel Bermejo of DepEd Capiz; Adonis Mosquera of the DepEd-Roxas City Division; a representative of 1st District Congressman Ivan Howard Guintu; a representative of 2nd District Congresswoman Jane T. Castro; and a representative of Senator Legarda. (With reports from CAPSU & CMPG)
