DA approves P76.3-million upgrade of Roxas City slaughter house

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has approved the P76.3- million project to upgrade the slaughterhouse of Roxas City. No less than DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. turned over the No Objection Letter (NOL) to Mayor Ronnie Dadivas for the upgrading of the Roxas City Abattoir during
a program for the agriculture and fisheries sector of Western Visayas region in Iloilo City last February 14, 2024. To recall, it was in December 2020 when the Dadivas administration proposed to DA’s Philippine
Rural Development Project (PRDP) to upgrade the rating of the slaughterhouse.
The existing slaughterhouse located in Brgy. Dingginan has an A rating from the National Meat Inspection
Service. An A rating means that meat processed can only be transported and traded within the city.
With an AA rating, meat processed at the new slaughterhouse can be transported and traded outside
of Roxas City.

The soon-to-be upgraded Roxas City slaughterhouse is one of the big-ticket projects of World Bank, which finances the DA’s PRDP. Also present during the ceremonial turnover of the NOL in Iloilo City were DA-6 Regional Director Dennis Arpia; DA-6 Regional Technical Director Jose Albert Barrogo; Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-6) Regional Director Remia Aparri; Roxas City Agriculturist Mary Ann Baria; and Roxas City Engineer Antonio Amoroso.
