DA declares Capizbird flu-free anew

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has declared Capiz as Avian Influenza (AI) or Bird
Flu-free province, barely about seven months after a confirmed case of Highly Pathogenic
Avian Influenza (HPAI) Subtype H5N1 was detected in a poultry farm in Barangay Dayao, Roxas
City.
The province is now Avian Influenza-free based on the signed Memorandum Circular No. 27, series of 2023 of DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban issued on July 4, 2023.
The circular noted that more than 90 days after the end of cleaning and disinfection operations and surveillance activities in Roxas City and in the province, negative AI results came to Capiz.

The joint efforts of the Capiz provincial government, local government units, DA 6 and the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) through cleaning and disinfection, biosecurity and other quarantine activities in infected premises, have effectively paved the way in controlling and stamping out
the disease.

To note, Capiz is the sixth province in the country to fully recover from the effects of HPAI this year, succeeding Rizal, Quezon, South Cotabato, Ilocos Sur, and Batangas. (PIA Capiz)
