The Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) consulted local officials and stakeholders in Capiz as there are proposals to amend the Local Government Code.
DILG-6 Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero said the consultation is part of its Reimagining Local Governance (RevAmP), which is a comprehensive review of the law 35 years since it was enacted in 1991.
The DILG-6 gathered mayors, vice mayors, barangay officials, national government agencies, congressional district offices, civil society organizations, the academe, private sector representatives, and DILG field officers last July 30 in Roxas City.
The consultation is to gather policy recommendations, validate, and prioritize proposed amendments, build stakeholder consensus, and generate inputs for the Consolidated Reform Agenda of the entire Western Visayas region.
Ingeniero noted that local government units (LGUs) and even barangays face different issues and challenges in comparison to 1991. He mentioned the shift of governance that includes taking into account the broader impact of climate change to local governance, among other issues.
