DOE official pushes electric coops to own power plants

ROXAS CITY — Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Benito Ranque is pushing for electric cooperatives in the Philippines to run its power plants.

Ranque said that when electric cooperatives have their power plants, it would lower the cost of electricity.

“Walang transmission costs, no systems loss, no systems vat, at sariling metro na lang,” Ranque added.

He also said that local government units can invest equity loan shares into the endeavor as a form of economic enterprise, he added.

Ranque is also pushing for the use of renewable energy.*
