DSWD releases P40.3 million to centenarians in Region 6

Last year, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-6) released cash gifts amounting
to P40.3 million to 403 centenarians in Region 6.
“We are happy because have brought joy to the elderly, particularly to the centenarians. We treasure
them and we give so much credit to them in rearing us,” said Atty. Carmeno N. Nochete, DSWD-6
regional director.
Each of the centenarian received P100,000 cash gift and a plaque of felicitation from the Office of the
President.
If broken down, the number of centenarians who received the cash gift reached 49 in Aklan; 32 in
Antique; 61 in Capiz; 11 in Guimaras; 20 in Iloilo City; 139 in Iloilo province; 17 in Bacolod City; and 74 in
Negros Occidental.
This is DSWD’s implementation of Republic Act No. 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016,” Honoring
Filipinos who have reached the age of 100-years-old and whether residing in the Philippines or abroad.
The law provides that centenarians will receive awards and incentives that include a cash gift of
P100,000 and a Letter of Felicitation signed by the President from the national government thru DSWD.
Also, the Local Government Units (LGUs) are directed to give awards and incentives wherein amount for
the cash incentive will be determined by them thru a resolution or ordinance.
Nochete assured that the DSWD-6 will fast track the processing of cash gifts of the target beneficiaries
for this year.
“This is our way of honoring the people who came before us. They have contributed in our society, be it
small or big. We are grateful to them,” added Nochete.
The recent program for centenarians was led by the Protective Services Division under the stewardship
of Katherine Joy Malagad Lamprea with focal person Doyien Castillo. (DSWD-6 PIO)
