Dumarao wins Maragtas Christmas Village Competition

The Municipality of Dumarao emerged as the grand winner of the Maragtas Christmas Village Competition of the Provincial Government of Capiz under Governor Fredenil Castro. The Capiz Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office led by Al Tesoro awarded the winners during a December 30, 2023 ceremony. As the grand winner, the local government unit (LGU) of Dumarao received P300,000 as cash prize. The LGU of the Municipality of Sigma was named as the first-runner up and earned a cash prize of P250,000. The LGU of the Municipality of Ivisan followed as the second runner-up with a cash prize of P200,000. The LGU of the Municipality of Cuartero was the third runner-up with a cash prize of 150,000. The LGU of the Municipality of Maayon was the fourth runner-up with a cash prize of P100,000. All winning towns were also given trophies. The trophies’ design was inspired by the pako-pako panubok pattern of the Pan-ayanon Bukidnon indigenous peoples (IPs). It was drawn from the shape of the fiddlehead fern or the pako plant that grows abundantly near rivers. The trophy is further embellished with mini-Christmas lanterns made of kapis shells or pios. The LGUs of the Municipalities of Sapian, Dao, Jamindan, Tapaz, Dumalag, Mambusao, Panay, Pontevedra, Panitan, Pilar, and Roxas City each received consolation prizes of P25,000. The Maragtas Christmas Village was one of the component activities of the Paskwa sang Maragtas: Capiz Christmas Festival.
