Brigadier General Joey A. Escanillas has taken over the command of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID).
Philippine Army Commanding General Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete led the July 15, 2026 change of command ceremony at Camp Peralta in the Municipality of Jamindan.
Escanillas replaced Major General Michael G. Samson, who retired after nearly four decades of military service.
Before his appointment, Escanillas served as 3ID Assistant Division Commander.
Escanillas also previously led the 302nd Infantry Brigade, where he oversaw security operations in Negros Island.
Escanillas’ familiarity with the 3ID is expected to provide continuity as the command sustains its peace and security efforts across Western and Central Visayas.
The ceremony likewise paid tribute to Samson, who retired after 39 years in the military.
Under Samson’s leadership, the 3ID strengthened its operational capabilities while advancing programs that promoted peace, stability, and collaboration with local government units and partner agencies throughout the region.
