Mayor Receliste “Tanoy” Escolin of President Roxas assured cash aid will be given to residents displaced by the court’s demolition order in Barangay Hanglid.
Escolin told The Capiz Times that the local government unit (LGU) can release cash aid of P10,000 to the 11 households affected.
To recall, the demolition that started last February 3 was an emotional turn of events for residents who had to watch their homes destroyed with cops in full-battle gear deployed to keep the peace and order.
Escolin noted that he had done his share of trying to get the demolition order postponed by having dialogues with land owner Terrence Uygonco of Capiz Sugar Central, the affected residents and the sheriff.
Escolin also apologized for not being present during a traumatic event for the affected residents.
As mayor, Escolin explained that he has no power over the court’s decision.
The mayor said he also decided not to show up to avoid escalating the situation.
“Naga buylog man kita sa ila kalisud nga wala na sila istaran (We also share their grief as they no longer have a place to live),” Escolin said.
Meanwhile, the LGU of President Roxas is still looking for kindhearted individuals to offer temporary housing to the displaced residents.
Escolin admitted that the LGU of President Roxas does not have the budget for a relocation site.
