Ex-Assoc. Justice Contrerasseeks Provincial Board seat

RETIRED Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Edward B. Contreras is running for a seat in the
Provincial Board of Capiz.
“Hindi na pwede nga personality-based ang pulitika sa Capiz (Politics in Capiz should not just be personality-based),” said Contreras after fi ling his certificate of candidacy (COC) in Roxas City.
“Dapat issue-related gudto maka bulig guid sa mga Capiceño (It should be issue-related so it can help the
Capiceño),” added Contreras.
He is running as an independent candidate and has no alliance with the key political figures in Capiz province.
Contreras noted that if he wins, he will sponsor a resolution with the Capiz Provincial Board to address the high cost of electricity in the province.
The rate of Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) averages more than P13 per kilowatt-hour (P13/kWh).
“To elevate the political discourse, one of my priorities is to make legislation to lower the cost of electricity,” said Contreras.
Contreras was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2013 during the presidency of Benigno S. Aquino III.
