Ex-barangay captain faces illegal firearm probe

The Roxas City Police Station is investigating an incident wherein a long firearm was seen in the possession of Rolando Luda, the former barangay captain and incumbent barangay kagawad of Barangay VII.

City police chief Lt. Col. Rogelio L. Tomagtang Jr. said they are trying to establish what led to what is now a viral incident when a video circulated online showed Luda carrying what appeared to be an armalite during a confrontation over a land dispute last week.

The incident allegedly occurred along New Washington Street in Barangay VII.  When the police responded to the area, Luda was no longer present and the firearm was never recovered.

It is unclear what was the role of Luda over the dispute of the ownership and sale of rights over a parcel of land, which led to a confrontation between parties concerned.

Tomagtang said they are encouraging complainants and witnesses to cooperate to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Luda may be facing violations of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
