ROXAS CITY — The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Lawaan is offering free Wi-Fi for online classes of senior high students up to postgraduate students in their barangay.
SK chairman Adrian Apaap said that they placed a Wi-Fi zone in their barangay hall to address concerns about online access for their virtual classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We became aware of the need for this project through social media. There are students who do not have access to internet connection and those who can go to computer rental shops might be at risk of being infected by COVID-19,” Apaap said in the vernacular.
The barangay hall has space at the SK Office for the Wi-Fi Zone which is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Users would be accommodated on a reservation basis to prevent overcrowding and lessen the likelihood of COVID-19 spreading, Apaap said.
To set up the reservation, the students must send a message to the Sangguniang Kabataan sang Lawaan Facebook page.
The Wi-Fi Zone can accommodate up to 10 people.
Each person has up to five hours to use the internet connection, which has 5 Mbps internet speed.
They also have to bring their gadget and ID, although there are available devices they can use.*
