ROXAS CITY — A garbage processing site is being eyed to be established in Sigma town, Capiz province.
“Barangay Acbo in Sigma would be the most convenient choice logistically for a provincial material recovery facility,” Provincial Administrator Edwin Monares said.
Monares stressed that a material recovery facility would be built in the barangay, and not a dumpsite.
The facility would turn wastes for other uses and would not need to consume five to seven hectares, he added.
With the extra space at the facility, it can also be used to create an adjacent garden or eco-park or other uses, he said.
He added that a barangay resolution approving the project was already passed, although Governor Esteban Evan Contreras has called for a consultation.
Japanese planners for the project would come in February next year, Monares said.
Moreover, the Environment Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has allocated P30 million for the technology to process the garbage, Monares said.
“Kaya tayo nagmamadali kasi babawiin na nila,” Monares said.
The previous administration had allocated P25 million for the purchase of the lot for the facility, he added.*
