Pinuno Partylist Congressman Howard Guintu was able to secure at least P70 million in funding for a livestock feedmill plant in the Municipality of Maayon.
This is part of the congressman’s effort to help corn farmers and generate more economic activity, especially in livestock farming in the First District of Capiz.
“Boosting the agriculture sector through assisting farmers and fisherfolks are among my priorities for the First District of the Province of Capiz,” Guintu said.
According to Guintu, approval was sought from the Department of Agriculture (DA) to fund the facility.
When built, the livestock feedmill plant will be managed and operated by the farmers of Maayon through a local cooperative.
The establishment of a livestock feedmill plant in Maayon shall assist livestock farmers in reducing their input costs as they shall be able to purchase locally-made feeds.
At the same time, farmers will be able to maximize the raw materials mainly available in Maayon, such as corn and rice, for the production of feeds.
Unfortunately, purchasing commercial feeds are expensive for local farmers and is a key constraint in efficiently producing swine and poultry.
Guintu recently met with members of the Tuburan, Quevedo, Bongbongan (TQB) Farmers’ Association and attended DA’s initial validation for the proposed livestock feedmill plant.
Guintu emphasized that farmers should be provided with much assistance given the hard work that they do to provide food on our tables.
“Not only will Maayon benefit from this, but the whole province, and eventually the whole Island of Panay once it is fully operational,” Guintu added.
