Guintu pushes anew for Roxas Airport rehab

Capiznon Congressman Howard Guintu of Pinuno Party-list is urging the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to prioritize the proposed rehabilitation of Roxas Airport in Roxas City, Capiz.

Guintu met with CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo to discuss an earlier

request for the much-needed rehabilitation works.

Guintu particularly mentioned the problems at airport’s passenger terminal.  It is overcrowded,

the restrooms are dilapidated and there are no options for dining at the boarding area.

As one of the gateways into Panay Island, Guintu said there’s a need to improve comfort for passengers at the airport, which may be able to expand its operational capacity.

While he is for rehabilitation project, Guintu maintained that he is against displacing residents who live nearby the airport.

Guintu also met with officials of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) to secure logistical support for the proposed airport’s passenger terminal and runway expansions.

During last year’s deliberation of the budget, Guintu managed to secure the commitment of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

For Guintu, a good airport is a great way to invite and welcome investors to Capiz.

Meanwhile, DOTr Undersecretary Roberto Lim and CAAP Assistant Director General Atty. Danjun Lucas conducted an inspection of Roxas Airport’s facilities last week “to assess current operations and discuss upcoming development projects aimed at enhancing airport services and infrastructure.”
