Kagitingan in present time

By Mila I. Barquin

Kagitingan (valor) is defined as bravery, courage, gallantry, or heroism. These qualiti
were manifested by the 76,000 Filipinos and American soldiers on April 1942 when they
marched 106 kilometers in the infamous Bataan Death March.
Of the almost 60,000 soldiers who survived, they stood their ground despite the odds.
They may have been afraid, but they continued to hope for their freedom and the freedom of the
Philippines.
As we approach the May 2025 elections, let us look closely into each of the candidates.
We have to find who defines bravery, courage, and gallantry. We need candidates who could
represent the citizenry and hopefully bring solutions to the various socio-economic concerns,
issues and problems.
For voters, let us be brave in choosing the candidates who we believe can help our
municipality, city, province, and country.
Let us pray for a clean, honest and non-violent elections. Our decisions would either
make or break our municipality, city, province, and country.
Let us vote wisely—not just for our welfare, but for our children and our children’s
children.
Let us be courageous despite all the chaos our country is facing now.
Let us be like our heroes—who, despite hardships, shed their blood for our freedom.
