Mayor answers rice distribution issue

Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas has answered the allegations hurled against him on the locality’s rice distribution program.

In a press conference on September 14, Dadivas, who was joined by City Administrator Love Usison and City Social Welfare and Development program officer Persy Cordova, stressed that the rice supply distributed to the residents is of quality and locally milled.

He said the 50-kilo sack from the National Food Authority is priced at P1,250.

He said 17,146 sacks amounting to P21,432,500 are yet to be purchased for the 45,269 families.

A P35 million supplemental budget was also requested for the 28,000 50-kilo sacks that will be distributed by end of the year.

Dadivas assured the residents that the rice distribution will continue.

Meanwhile, Councilors Moreno Gonzaga and Midelo Ocampo, who joined the rice distribution program in the city on Sept. 15, said that health protocols such as social distancing were not observed during the turnover, adding that senior citizens and children were also present at the venue.

They also claimed that residents waited for hours to claim the rice.*
