Medical, biz sectors call for MECQ status in Capiz

ROXAS CITY — The medical and business sectors here are calling the government to place Capiz under Modified Extreme Community Quarantine status.

The Capiz Medical Society and Capiz Halaran Chamber of Commerce have requested a two-week timeout to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the locality and to help the frontliners.

This is also because that the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) and the four private hospitals have already reached their full capacity, as well as the Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities (TTMF) that handle mild and asymptomatic cases.

They also said that Capiz has a mortality rate of 4.6 percent which is higher than the national rate of one percent.

Manpower, medicines, rebreathing masks, and ventilators are also at a critical level, they said.

Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras II said that the request to elevate the status of the province into MECQ would depend on the Inter-Agency Task Force.

Also, the mayors of the local government units must be consulted before requesting to be elevated to MECQ.*
