THE new site for the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) located in Brgy. Lanot,
Roxas City may be operational by next year. Dr. Florencio Luching, RMPH chief, said the
accomplishment rate for construction has reached 85 percent.
Luching told The Capiz Times the project funded by the Department of Health (DOH) and implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is scheduled to be turned over to the Capiz Provincial Government, which manages the hospital, by December 2024.
The construction of the five-story new hospital site initially started in 2010, but faced delays due to problems with funding and its contractors. Engr. Antonio S. Cerado, acting Capiz provincial
engineer, said that with more than a decade of delay, repair works were also done for the ceiling and electrical wirings of the hospital’s first and second floors.
Cerado also claimed that a huge budget is still needed so that the hospital can actually open to the public by next year.
Once finished, the new hospital building is set to cater to more patients and solve the heavy congestion at the hospital’s current site along Arnaldo Boulevard.
The current RMPH was originally built as a 200-bed capacity hospital, but its occupancy has been more than 250 on average. Meanwhile, Governor Fredenil “Oto” Castro is urging all agencies involved to expedite the new hospital’s completion.
