NFA buys 20,000 bags of palay

A total of 20,056 bags of clean and dry palay were procured by the National Food Authority (NFA) Capiz Branch Office from the farmers in Aklan and Capiz provinces as of February this year.

Based on NFA records, the branch has procured 7,948 and 12,108 bags of quality palay for the months of January and February 2022, respectively.

The total number is 62.67 percent for the two-month given target.

“Palay procurements are through in-house transactions where farmers deliver their palay produce to the nearest warehouse as well as through mobile procurements where farmers reach out to the agency to pick up their harvests in a designated area,” said NFA Branch Acting Public Information Officer Salve Mae Agustin.

Stocks delivered in warehouses and collected through mobile procurements are carefully classified by the assigned classifiers to ensure that the required quality standards are followed to maintain

its class during storage, she added.

The NFA buys at P19.00 per kilogram of a clean and dry palay with purity ranging from 95 percent to 100 percent and with moisture content of not less than 14 percent.

Also, the palay produce must be free from infestations to control and maintain the quality of stocks for consumption. (PIA Capiz)
